Random posts on this blog see a long gap of a post as I sneak in today to blog with a new resolution to again switch back Tech blogging, hopefully!

The focus is on current Launch of Google India's 'Google global market Finder - a free online tool for advertisers to find new markets overseas. Available as a part of Google Ads, the new tool is designed to help Indian businesses expand their business and reach out to customers in the international markets. Google is all set to help Indian small and medium sized businesses (SME)to compete at a global stage.

Google had been offering Free Adwords Coupons lately worth Rs.1500 to 2000/- to business and though I ignored to make use of this, I did understand the value of Adwords which prove to be very effective in promotion of business. Google's SMB (Small and medium Business/Entrepreneur) customer base has more than trippled with a 100% year on year growth in the sector," said Sridhar Seshadri, Head, Google India's online sales. A typical SMB client spends anywhere between Rs 10,000-35,000 on Google adwords,it is learnt and the Company picks up good business through the various Google's call centers which help SMBs understand how adwords functions and how they can make use of it.

Further to this, the Global Market Finder helps to identify new markets based on keyword searches originating from a region. Market Finder translates keywords into any one of 56 languages used in the selected region. It then ranks each location by opportunity based on factors like local search volume, suggested bid price, and competition for each translated keyword.

Go explore but choose the right keywords. Google reserve the right to disapprove any keywords you add. You are responsible for the keywords you select. (check out Adwords rules-terms and conditions)

Also Research new markets with Market Intelligence tools and after you’ve done your homework on your new customers, localize your website, keywords, and ads with Google’s translation tools.

Wondering what is GMMXIE? The new Google Doodle today is puzzling and I thought is it a code for something. Did it mean to convey hidden message? Soon, I thought over and ugh, oh - realized it's Roman Characters MMXI - G and e are part of Google logo! MMXIE is 2011 and if you carefully look in details, find the message of sparkling wishes for 2011. Google often has unique way of celebrating with Google doodles and here, we find hope and joy as the year bids farewell and and the new year bell chimes in to ring in the new.

The United Nations has designated 2011 (MMXI) the International Year of Forests and International Year of Chemistry.

Google Instant Previews

Google recently launched Instant Previews and it sure is a way to guide you to see the web page as is, where is and how it is! You don't have to leave the Search results without a preview which gives a glimpse into spot on pages in search results that are most promising pages amongst the listed. All depending on the Key words and where the web page is positioned, it is the top 1-10 results that help viewers click to read the best.

Needless to say, M J Akbar's Blog preview in Google Search reflects the results with various key words. The new feature of Google helps people to save their time in searching process and saves for pogo sticking - usually clicking to site and coming back to search if unsatisfied. With the Google preview, the search results reflect with a small magnifying glass which appear next to each listing. Clicking on this magifying glass image, a preview of the page that is listed will appear to the right side of the search results. It makes easier to move down the arrow key through all search listings and it lets u look inside! As you select web listing, it will be highlighted with a blue background. The preview will change to show the highlited page. Within the images, relevant text to your search highlighted through 'call outs' that make it easy to read. Pages can have more than one call out and it might also have what Google calls 'tear' where a page appear as torn to show the overall context of the page but also show parts relevant to the search.

The images preview cover up Google's ads when they appear. This means, ads too get instant previews feature in the future. I think, this is a neat and a cool feature that helps save time and lets people browse in through the search results - at a glance look at web pages at Google search. Ever comes 27th September and it's Birthday celebrations. Google Celebrated it's 10th Birthday with Project10100 'May Those who Help the Most Win' - with Ideas to change the world by helping many people as possible. Google committed $10 million to implement these projects, and their goal is to help as many people as possible. I do not know what happened to the Project Ideas but yes, here's a glimpse into many Ideas to Vote that time:

It’s Google’s 12th birthday on 27th September and time for celebrations again. Google’s regular logo has been replaced by an image of a cake, created by the American painter Wayne Thiebaud. This logo is the new brand Google Doodle in the Google Logos which are newsworthy in their own right after the technology firm started using the customised versions of its logo to mark what it considered significant occasions.

Happy Birthday Google - 27th September is a memory. Google opened its doors in September 1998. "The exact date when we celebrate our birthday has moved around over the years, depending on when people feel like having cake." said Larry Page and Sergey Brin earlier. However, the cake logo confirms that Indeed, the Birthday date is fixed for 27th September now and confirmed for once and for all.

New Twitter, my new beginning!

Twitter getting Bigger and Better! New Twitter and my New Beginning!

When I first started my Tweets, I was totally confused and wondered, "Why do I have to tell the world what I am doing?" Than came the Facebook with the Status Updates and even My Space. I felt better reading tweets and status of people and realized a wonderful world of staying connected and sharing. In turn, marketing and promoting own work and websites.

A time phase with the Twitter Phishing attacks and my exploring mind found the loopholes in the system on which, I blogged to get answers to my suspicion. However, the result was a Suspended Account and I lost interest in Twitter world with time restraints and unwillingness to opt for new account. I did not want to go for a new account like @ThisIsFisher did and even wrote a song as Twitter' Bots decided to suspent his account for doing nothing wrong. (Listen to the song)

Finally, after a long one year wait, my Twitter account is re-activated and back to normal. Thanks to a good friend @ Netra who encouraged me to be back on Twitter! Only the thing is that a shift in use, make me forget to tweet live and the fear of the phishing would not let me update through my iphone. Random tweets can now be found but I am sure, you will like to stay tuned to my world if you find my tweets interesting.

Well, back to Twitter - I find that Twitter is now getting More Bigger and More Better - all for Good. Life does not fit in 140 character. Each tweet is a handful of information or a promotion - even embedded media with the photos, videos directly to Twitter.

The new Design is clean and neat. A scroll with no click to more to view further tweets. @ mentions, retweets, searches and lists are just above the timeline giving a single streamlined view on the left of the screen. On right, all good features that draw our attention whom we followed and who follows us, plus the favorites and the trending topics.

Depending on the tweets, we discover related contents. The details pane show additional information as to the subject and who is the author. @ replies, other tweets of the same user is visible and from where the tweet was sent.

Partnership with You Tube, Flickr, TwitPIc, Vimeo, UStream, etc. makes it so convenient to share the videos and photos directly to Twitter. Twitter has also recently released ipad apps.

I am a great big fan of Mashable and a quick glance of the posts keeps one updated in Technology and what's going on in social and digital media, technology and web culture. It provides Breaking Web News and for journalists like me, it's a quick read that keeps informed and aware of Tech world. WikiLeaks and the site dominated the news cycle with over 92,000 Military documents. The Pentagon demanded in the first week of August that WikiLeaks “do the right thing” and remove from its Web site tens of thousands of classified documents about the war in Afghanistan, and return to the military thousands of others that it had not yet made public.

Wikileaks disclosure of a six-year archive of thousands of documents gave the Taliban and other militant groups insights into American military tactics and techniques, showed how the United States protects its troops in war zones and revealed the names of Afghan informants and how the military cultivates them.

Frank Rich of New York Times summed up the sentiment of many of his colleagues saying “They are historical documents describing events largely predating the current administration,” Rich wrote. “They contain no news. They will not change the course of the war.”

I think,the latest leak from WikiLeaks signals a seminal change for investigative journalism as even talked about at Mashable.

However, The New York Times, the British newspaper The Guardian and the German magazine Der Spiegel, after being given early access by WikiLeaks, published excerpts but excluded those that identified individuals or compromised operations. The Times also agreed to forward a request by the administration urging WikiLeaks not to post online any documents that would put informants in jeopardy.

Wikileaks allows people to anonymously post documents on the web, saying its aim is to promote transparency. I wonder, could this be authentic and how far could this be true and justified.

As of now, Human rights groups have urged WikiLeaks to redact names of Afghans helping American forces from thousands of leaked US military documents, leading to a charged retort from the website's founder, says AFP via Wall Street Journal.

911 pager messages and Sarah Palin email links with more about the Reuters journalist were among the many leaks that went unnoticed.

Technology and the media with websites like Wikileaks are reflections of Internet's freedom of Speech and information. Do post in your views.

The response was overwhelming as Google quotes on it's Project10100 site as more than 170 countries submitted more than 150,000 Ideas. These ideas range from general Investment suggestions to specific implementation proposals. You can take a note of the 16 Big Ideas that inspires and you can Vote for it. Suspend Twitter - Mosey along to Friendfeed.com

Are you a fan of 140 character Twitter and addicted posting from any place, any where, any time? Beware!!! You are soon going to be insane or maybe your account will be 'Mosey along - nothing to see here' - Just Suspended for no reason of yours!

Recently, the news around at Mashable has more than 250+ Comment posts of Twitter users whose account is Suspended. It seems 4chan maybe behind this attack on Twitter says Cnet. Twitter is going to have a hard time controlling spammers, pranksters and hackers whose number will inevitably increase with the rise of Twitter’s popularity. Moreover, Twitter lacks in Security and have no control over its own program and it uses Google API !

The following is an update from Twitter Blog on 5th July 2009:

Restoring accidentally suspended accounts

"We regret the human error that led to these mistaken suspensions and we are working to restore the affected accounts—we expect this to be completed in the next several hours.
One additional note: some the accounts suspended were using the third-party site Tweetlater. However, Tweetlater is not to blame for these suspensions nor is it in violation of our Terms."

Well, I did spot some problems of Twitter Phishing in January as some Hi Profile accounts were hacked. Among the many were New York Times and Brittany Spears and of coz, mine too:-) Again, in May end, the phishing strikes and this time, Kidsfreesouls account goes Suspended due to reasons best known to Twitter. More users are being Suspended with Mosey along stranding the users. The Twitter Customer Support is very active for a reply to help to users and diverts to 'Terms and conditions' and other things with no satisfactory answer. Repeat tickets are soon tagged as 'Closed' or 'Solved' with a curt reply 'Thanks for your feature request' and you can tweet @twitter - How? remains to be seen as you cannot send @twitter when your account opens but is 'Dead.'!!!

Many users have diverted to Friendfeed and truly welcoming, it open up doors with much more better Tweeting + added features to stay tuned. I had earlier wrote on Twitter Phishing and would recommend Twitter users to be Cautious - Follow Mashable for more inputs on this and other related tech information. Twitter seems to be desperately trying to rectify errors on their side and provide lame assistance to users - However, there is a "Hole in the Twitter" and it remains to be seen how Twitter can safeguard its own as well users security.

Google Color filter to Image Search

Google adds Color Filter to the Image Search recently. You can find the changes here on 'Google Images' - All content, drop down box. This means, now you have options to view the images in various colors - Red, orange, teal..and more. Find Image search of kidsfreesouls here.

Under advanced options, Google Image Search already has quite a number of interesting options, including filters for image content type, size, and format.

Several search engines seems to be coming up and I hear, the latest one is Webscaler, Allinone Search Engine. It is connected to more than 1800 search engines in 200 countries and eventually to built a metasearch engine that would integrate all the one million small search engines into a single system which provide instant answers. Webscaler distinguish different from metasearch engines as they focus on smaller search engines as opposed to google, msn or yahoo.

Well, the biggest challenge on web is to stay tuned to the search - and finally, here is Kosmix - you might find it interesting!

Since quite years, I am quite familiar with many Top Blogs and been randomly visiting some of them while space made way inbetween my workload. Blogs related to Tech are on my top list, followed by Politics and related to my Blog posts.

Andrew Sullivan's Daily Dish is a lovely meal and as Time says, can be appointed as 'Country's Blogger in Chief.' The Daily Dish sub head says, 'No Party, no clique'. Andrew's post on 'Why Blog' pose as an Inspiration to many a souls like me and nevertheless, I agree to what he says. "We blog as news reaches us, as facts emerge." For Bloggers, deadline is always now - spontaneous and just not like the Reporters or the Novelist who can pick time and wait for final selection. Blogging is more a free form, you even end up writing personal or share, speak loud your ideas and opinions - no barriers but dedicated daily journal posts and comitted to self. Read the post and maybe you are inspired to Blog if you're not doing so. A blogger has no limits - you Blog or enjoy real life - no hassles.

The Huffington Post , Mashable , Official Google Blog, TechCrunch, Daily Kos: State of the Nation, Gawker are my random visited Blogs but I am surprize I cannot find ProBlogger and I would add this to Best Blog on the web too! Do let me know what you read and like in the comments and maybe, I can find more resources to list here.

Twitter Phishing strikes!!!

A big phishing attack hit Twitter users worldwide, forcing the micro-blogging service to advise its users to change their passwords. Phishers are now targeting the microblogging service Twitter to promote a widespread phishing campaign tricking celebrities and other users into submitting their personal information for identity theft and other illegal activities.

On 3rd Jan, it was noticed that many users got direct messages to follow a link but for me, it was a strange way to know Twitter phishing as I noticed the backgrounds of my site changed to Twitter profile background. On finding the source, it read:

As I checked on this, it is a surprize as to how my Twitter image reached Amazon Developer site! I changed my Twitter bg and my site bg with twitter bg was gone!

On following Chris Pirillo's Tweet, I realised Twitter Phishing. Could this be a marketing gimmick of Amazon Simple storage service as found in my twitter image url? Or is Amazon (AWS) lack in security? How do they have the Twitter production RSS jpgs of twitter profiles?

All questions are confusing! Maybe the Blogger and Wordpress blogs have good security which is otherwise not in the case of Websites hosted by hosts! in the last 3 days, it is learnt, 33 high profile Twitter users had their accounts hacked. These accounts included President Elect Barack Obama, Rick Sanchez, Britney Spears and other high profile/celebrity Twitter users. And one is Mine! Maybe, these hi profile user list feature in list of http://s3.amazonaws.com/twitter_production/

I was exploring the Developer's Applications and came across Connect Facebook. However, much easier made me pick up Friend Connect as Googlers call in 'Friend Sense' and truly, it is! Google's new product launched recently, is the new social product with it's goal to facilitate an open social web.

Just watched the NDTV show with Mr. Vinay Goel, the Head of Products, Google answering the questions. As I gather, Google has announced its India Zeitgeist, a look at 2008 through the collective eyes of the Indian users on the web.

The 2008 year-end India Zeitgeist offers a unique perspective on the year's major events and hottest trends based on searches conducted by users in India.

Mahatama Gandhi is still the number one politician followed by Raj Thakeray , Sonia Gandhi, Indira Gandhi , Rahul Gandhi , Abdul Kalam , Manmohan Singh and Mayawati. It is a surprise, not a single BJP leader’s name figures among top ten political celebrities during 2008. Moreover, Indians have searched more for Sarah Palin and Barrack Obama rathar than any other Indian politician.

Google Trends on October 1, 2008 had the highest word 'Google 2001' - No wonder, to mark the 10th Birthday, most of you must have visited Google's Oldest available Index to take a look back to 2001 Search of almost 1,326,920,000 web pages.

If you search 'Freesouls', you will end up find my old pages of yester years lying still in the Archive! Search in for any keyword you want to take a look back to Google in 2001. It's amazing to find Facebook with login area and My Space, Twitter have no trace at all!

Google Android, Google Birthday, MJ Blog Birthday!

T-Mobile showed off its new G1 debuts as first Google Android Phone. The device, developed by HTC, is one of the smart phones as we can see the product demo by the manufacturers on You Tube here. T-Mobile announced the International launch of the Google Android powered phone in partnership with Google recently, T-Mobile Phone boasts an Intuitive Touch Screen and QWERTY Keyboard, plus Popular Google Products and fresh, New Applications.

This phone will be available exclusively from T-Mobile and we will have to wait till it reaches the market here. It has unique applications and like iPhone, bear a resemblance to the software used on iPhone which allows touch screen device and allow owners to place icons linking to sites such as You tube. With just a couple of short clicks, customers can find and download a wide range of innovative software applications — from games to social networking and on-the-go shopping — to personalize their phone and enhance their mobile lifestyle. When the phone launches next month, dozens of unique, first-of-a-kind Android applications will be available for download.

The iPhone and Android phones both ship with Web browsers based on the WebKit rendering engine. So, this will be so identical that applications will also render on webkit based browsers as Safari and Google Chrome, used by iPhone and Android.

I thought initially, Google was supposed to unveil the GPhone but than I understand, Google is not releasing any mobile devices on its own. It has collaborated with several technology and wireless companies to develop Android which is an open source platform that can be used by any third party developers to create applications. And I gather, the Google Director, Andy Rubin won't comment on the future plans to create a mobile phone of its own.

What so interesting I hear is, Amazon.com MP3 music store will be pre-loaded on the T-Mobile G1, the first phone to be powered by Android. Verizon has given a warm response and AT&T has yet to comment publicly on it.

I had mentioned of Top ten Applets of iPhone earlier here, but here's Top 10 best Google Android Apps and the prize winning apps picked by Google for which it would give $10 million worth in prizes to software development companies who've developed innovative and useful applications for its open source mobile platform.

Google chrome: 'I'm Loving It'

Google launched Google Chrome on 2nd September, the new tabbed browser that competes with Firefox and Internet Explorer. In an Hour, Google Chrome got 2 million brand impressions via Twitter and the very next day, I downloaded GC.

The Chrome initially did have some vulnerabilities and fixes some security problems. Still in the Beta version, many of the users did not know of the update and so, to check if an update is available, Chrome users can click the wrench icon in Chrome's upper-right corner, then select "about Google Chrome." That will show both the version number and a message indicating whether an update is available. However, without a manual check, Chrome update itself automatically at approx. every five hours. At the next browser restart, the update is available.

Well, for the starters - Let me introduce Google Chrome with my own experience of browsing on the platform. According to me, Chrome is the standardized operating system for Web apps. Chrome helps turn any web App into something where we can reach from Start Menu, desktop. And like iPhone, the expected launch of Android on September 21 will have Chrome as it's mobile phone software. Chrome and Android's current browser both already employ WebKit, an open-source project for the process of interpreting the HTML code that makes up a Web page and rendering it on a screen.

With Chrome, everything is google and the best part is that you are wedded to Google forever but compromising on some things that we like to see in Chrome. To mention some, here's on Cnet for a quick glance.

Chrome is, nonetheless, full of really smart features that seem to be inspired by other browsers and is on way to build a serious potential. At the moment, I found there is no way to email a web page, no full screen mode, no way to magnify the page and no better bookmark organizing screen. It seems, these are the the top to do list by Google. Another thing is, if we ever search Amazon, kidsfreesouls, mjakbar, nytimes or any popular site, another cool shortcut awaits. Just type the sites first letter in the address bar and then press Tab. Do that with K, for eg. and the address bar changes to Search kidsfreesouls.com, allowing you to search within my site without even going there first. You have saved one big step. As your start up page, this is a wonderful feature that I like. Chrome displays pictures of nine mini web pages, representing my most frequently visited sites. So, next time you log, you have the Google Chrome Desktop online! I call it Desktop because it helps me follow my sites first as a check of a daily routine and rest follows later. The create application's short cut commant generates an icon on the desktop and when you click it, the corresponding sites open without the usual address bar.

I use the IE, did like the Safari and now switching over to Google Chrome. IE has significant challenges in getting users to upgrade to new version of IE and Google also will face a challenge to find ways to distribute the new browser. In the end, I am sure 'Google is the King' and if not rule the web with Chrome, it will definitely stand tall with this competition to other browsers and be an apple of the eye to many users who love 'Just Google' - I am one in the line, for sure. For a smart search start, do this: put K-i-d-s-f-r-e-e-s-o-u-l-s or even ilaxi and you don't have to go on more, it's everywhere on Google!

Bill Gates is a major influence on the web but than those who are surfing the web lanes day in and day out are aware of the many celebrities online whom we come across everyday. Tech Cult has named a 100 Celebrities on the web and it's amazing to note many known faces and friends amidst the list. It brings a big smile to see the names of the many known faces, however, I find many a missing celebrity that could have extended the list. After all, web is a big crowded place and selecting 100 is too less!

Btw, Google has unveiled a new virtual 3D chat experience. “Lively by Google” lets you develop your own customized avatar and environment to interact with friends — and rumor has it some big name industry insiders have already created their avatars. This include My Space's Tom, Bill Gates, Larry and Sergey too!

I've created my Avatar and the virtual room with a sofa, rug and a table...ugh, it's tricky setting up the vase on the table though! As I still explore this Lively Beta version, if interested in virtual 3D Chat experience, all you got to download the Lively and it requires the Windows Vista/XP with Internet Explorer or Firefox. Sometime back, I mentioned of Image Ads appearing in my Feedburner widget codes in my Ed note on Kidsfreesouls. Well, was that the testings...I wonder coz since Google Acquires Feedburner, Adsense users have more potential earnings as they can allow ads to their Feedburner codes. I also mentioned of Ads appearing in Headlines Animator and you can create an ad using the Google Adwords account.

Well, Feedburner goes live with Google Acquiring Feedburner services - Adsense Integrated with Feedburner site ads. Though the Acquisition terms are confidential, the deal is officially closed mentions their website here. The Press has an option to email Google on this page for info.

Facebook has recently become everyone's darling! People influences people and nothing influences more than a recommendation from a trusted friend, says Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg, who founded the company three years ago. Thus, Facebook has unveiled plans to target advertisements by targetting them into its members' conversations. The popular online hangout must persuade its users to embrace the initiative. The members have their own control and can say 'yes' to advertisers to pitch in friend's endorsements. If a friend has booked a vacation on Travelocity, the online travel agency will be able to display the friend's photo as part of a "social ad" to entice the user to buy flights and hotel stays. Self Googling or call it 'Ego Surfing' scales higher with more online surfers found to be just looking for themselves or checking out their friends, co-workers or for romantic interests.

A research Entitled "Digital Footprints: Online Identity Management and Search in the Age of Transparency," Pew Internet and American Life Project said 47 percent of US adult Internet users have looked for information through googling themselves. The search engines sorted are either Google or of choice. 53 percent adult users are looking up for information about someone else with often, about those they've lost touch with. However, looking for information of friends, colleagues and the like is common. 60 percent people aren't worried about the extent of information about themselves online, despite of the concern on how the data can be used.

Pew finds that teens were more likely than adults to restrict who can see their profiles at online hangouts like facebook.

Well, Googling reveals a lot of information as people leave footprints on web. However, I always ego surf when I sort for my own writing since posting on a couple of websites and blogs since more than many many years, keeps one lose tract of posts and as such, google reveals all! So, it's quite easier to find the lost tracks. I've a special Children Search Engine here and you can find these ex students on the web with all their activities! That's how a teacher can keep a track of all its students:-) What they've achieved, where they are, what they're doing...n lot more. Even the ex students have united and called back reviving the memories of the yester years.

Searches have the capacity to reunite, reignite social connextions and even googling for professional reasons. Ego surfing finds way to stat reports too as the googling name reflects keyword on the stats while you visit the search results. As such, googling self or others itself is apt to increase as at least, once a person will look for his name.

So, the next time, you are leaving your impressions on the web with your words, images or searches, Google knows it all!

Microsoft is back in news. Microsoft hopes to charm small businesses with a new bundle of software and services called Office Live, available for public beta testing started recently. They will be offering free, basic Web site for your company- courtesy of Microsoft and some third-party ads that will run on the page. Office Live will also offer monthly subscriptions to a bundle of 20 Web-based "applications," many of which are templates for organizing and sharing information online.

Yahoo has offered free Web pages to small-business owners since spring 2005. However, Microsoft's page templates have more eye-appeal as I browse through the site.

Google Print Ads, the extension of Adwords will now make advertisers and agencies to run newspaper ads across US - whether the space is bought in one paper of many. Google Print allows advertisers to select newspapers and place bids for ad space in them. The newspapers than approve or decline the bid. As Google Print is a dynamic offer based market place, Advertisers propose the price they're willing to pay for an ad.

Copyright Royalty Board decided to raise royalties for Internet broadcasters and also double the rate in next five years. Hence, National Public Radio (NPR) took the initiative and appealed the CRB’s decision, but was denied the request by a panel of judges. Kurt Hanson, who publishes the Radio and Internet Newsletter, had organized a Day of Silence to showcase what could end up happening with the ridiculous rate hike.
In protest of royalty fee increases, participating Internet radio went silent yesterday . Listeners were asked to contact representatives in support of the Internet Radio Equality Act, and they did. And I think competitions are good for users.Google announced on 17th april,Tuesday on it's Corporate Blog that it has acquired Tonic Systems, which specializes in collaborative presentation software. It will be adding presentation software to its Google Apps suite of office software. Due this summer, it will complement the word-processing and spreadsheet software Google has already released. Users of the Web-based Google Docs & Spreadsheets software can log in from any computer through a Web browser and collaborate, making simultaneous edits and changes to files.This will enable to generate and share presentations.

Reuters has invested $7m (£3.7m) in an internet startup, aiming to push the world of blogging further into the mainstream. Texas dotcom firm Pluck brings together almost 3,000 highly rated blogs and syndicates them to news media organisations for use on their websites. The popular hangout on web might be Orkut for Indians but My Space is fast pacing up with multiplied websites providing My space goodies like layouts, profile pimps, comment codes, etc. To avoid the mistakes Orkut did, My Space announced recently that it will develop technologies to help block convicted sex offenders by partnering with Sentinel Tech Holding Corp. They will build a database that will contain the names and physical descriptions of convicted sex offenders in US. An automated system will search for matches between the database and My space user profiles. Parents, school administrators and law enforcement authorities have grown worried that teens are at risk on My Space and other social networking sites, which provide tools for sharing photos, creating personal pages and using pimp up profile sites. In October, about 12% were teens on My Space.

Books go live at Google Books

As we all know Google had encountered the Copyright issue earlier but now the alternate Google Book Search program offers Publishers and Authors new features for online Book experience. Google has designed a new browsing interface and you can simply scroll through the pages, or, for full view books, view them in two-page mode and flip through just like a book. You can zoom in, switch to full screen, and jump directly to the chapters that interest you. If the book is part of the public domain, you can comfortably read it on screen or download it if you prefer. For an in-copyright book, just follow the links to buy it or to find it in a library.

For this, Google Book Search now features links to WorldCat's free Web service. The Google service, which lets you search the full text of books provided by participating libraries and publishers, includes "Find this book in a library" links that lead to the WorldCat Web record for an item. There you can enter a geographic identifier such as postal code and receive a list of nearby libraries that hold the item.

The "Find this book in a library" link to WorldCat typically appears in the right-hand column of any Google Book Search "view," beneath descriptive information for a book (title, authors) and "Buy this book" purchase options.

The WorldCat link appears within all four available Google Book views:

>>the Full View offering access to the full content of a digitized title;
>>the Limited Preview that lets you read only several pages of the book;
>>the Snippet View that contextually presents passages of the book which contain your search terms; and
>>the basic record view which does not feature a content preview.

Advanced Book Search also has Library Catalogs option.Google's Advanced Book Search also now allows you to limit a search to "Library Catalogs." The recent news around is Google Inc plans to start selling advertising space in 50 top newspapers, expanding the Internet search efforts to provide services off the web and making it easier for companies advertising online to also show off their products in print.

A group of more than 100 Google Advertisers will be able to place bids for space in The New York Times, Gannett, Tribune and Washington Post during a three month test period according to reports on my desk.

Now, I feel this system will indeed increase sales as online journalism is in thing today and competition from online advertising also on a rise. Also google will gain more customers during its pursuit of print, radio and television marketing. Advertisers will have better opportunities to pick specific newspapers and specific sections for their ads. Buisnesses would place bids on ad size, sections and days a newspaper is offering and the publication can view the bids and make selections. The newspaper reserves the right to choose to accept as many bids as their reach.
Yeah, the newspapers would have a wider chance to tap in a group of advertisers and for sure, the print is going to stay even with the online Journalism and blogging journalism is on rise. It only remains to be seen how the trial period goes so that google can start this project by next year.

Coke, Pepsi, Nike, so on - brands spend money where eyeballs are rolling. There is more money in branding than cost per click and Google adwords apt to find targets here. The best Internet Purchase of the year by google. However, I fear Google's Orkut known as Opium of the Internet masses, is getting into trouble in India with its Hate Groups & Anti social elements. The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court, comprising Justice AP Deshpande and Justice RM Borde, issued notice to Google last week following a public interest litigation initiated by 22-year-old advocate Yugant R Marlapalle-Also an Orkut Member, he objects of a community burning Indian flag.

Remains to be seen how communities are controlled like this one - not only on Orkut but www itself! Well, I heard, Orkut is being re-designed again!

As google celebrated its 8th Birthday on 27th September, it's been my fav search engine on the web. My affair with Google Search started way back as I explored the web. I almost fell in love with Google and I found it a 'wonder of wonders'. This has ever been my first Internet Crush and since years, my day began with google and ended up google as I updated my websites.

In September 1998, Google Inc. opened its door in Menlo Park, California. The door came with a remote control, as it was attached to the garage of a friend who sublet space to the new corporation's staff of three. The office offered several big advantages and also provided a parking space for the first employee hired by the new company. He was Craig Silverstein, now Google's director of technology. Google.com was in the Beta version then and answered over 10,000 search queries each day. Their ladder to success was sure as in December 1998, PC Mag named Google as one of its Top 100 Web sites and Search Engines for 1998. By 21st September 1999, the Beta Label of Google Search Engine came off from the site and became Time magazine's Top Ten Best Cybertech list for 1999.

Google got the Webby Award and a People's Voice Award for technical achievement in May 2000 when Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin spoke few words of acceptance 'We Love you Google users. And this turned out today with people saying "We Love You Google". Quality of search results is all that matters with Google. Most comprehensive web search and here's Google come a long way with :

Indian Govt has a lousy idea of Blog censorship that their Instructions landed up the ISPs to block all blogspot blogs!

Post 7/11, the Government decided to block sites and gave a handful of list to ISPs. Out of a misunderstanding of both Technology and Security, ISPs blocked all the Blogger Blogs. CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) of the Telecommunications demanded the block to some sites with no explanations to the drastic action of blocking all blogger sites. As a result, Indian Bloggers on the web with over 42,000 Bloggers on the Google owned blogspot.com suffered from this action. They have already formed "Bloggers Collective Group" and Wiki on Bloggers Against Censorship - a Campaign against Indian Government's apparent notice to various ISPs to Block the various websites and blogs hosted on blogspot.com. The bloggers demand their constitutional right to Freedom of Speech & Expression as Indian Citizens. Bloggers like Peter Griffin, Amit Verma, Dina Mehta, etc. have made all their efforts to help the blogging community to view the blogs and provided helpful hints and support.

A unique script has been provided by Dr. Awab Alvi, a Pakistani founder of 'Dont Block the Blog Campaign' and the Blogger Blogs can be viewed here. The Department of Telecom (DoT) has now instructed the ISPs to Block only the websites and blogs specified in the Instructions to them earlier. The order further says that the ISPs operating in India should strictly comply with the order dated 13th July 2006 and provide unhindered access to Internet. They are only supposed to block the limited number of web pages and websites not the entire network of domains hosting some of these blogs. They are also asking the ISPs to clarify why they should not take action against them for blocking harmless sites and causing a lot of troubles for the end user in the country.

Strangely, still Bloggers are unable to access blogs hosted on Google’s Blogger service even now. They need to sort to services like pkblogs.com .

Some Bloggers are moving for legal action ironically to be based on the Information Technology Act, 2000. In Section 66, this Act defines 'Hacking' - as gaining illegal access to any website, or preventing access to a website through illegal means.

My Blogs (mjakbar.org & swagatgroup.net) two of the blogs, out of many that I manage, can now be accessed with Blogger.com Tech tools as they now appear on this site powered by Blogger. Any person with a hosted website need to change the settings in blogger.com to publish its blog via ftp, thus ignoring the ban. However, this demands Blogger help, tech skills, hosting space and unnecessary changes!

With the new year bells ringing in great happy hours of surfing on web, here comes the Trojans riding on the web horse! Indians are ever the inquisite 'Hackers' - Yeah, I mean it as I came across a lot of guys who played the tricks and boasted the savvy types. Talk of Ankit Fadia - And you find him as Featured story of Ankit Fadia's Hacking Books and his tricks of the Hacking game. Every journalist (who don't understand Internet roads) interviewed him and placed him on top of the hack charts - ugh oh!!!

Well, right now, I gonna talk of the Trojan Horse I mentioned. Techshout.com reports that a new, deceptive Trojan Horse program has surfaced. The program is engineered to produce fake Google ads that are formatted to look like legitimate ones. The ads are incorporated in Google AdSense, the program that lets website owners display ads from Google’s list of advertisers. The Trojan Horse apparently downloads itself onto an unsuspecting computer through a web page and then replaces the original ads with its own set of malicious ads.

It's been Raoul Bangera, an Indian web publisher who discovered a bogus program and contacted Adsense Team. Bangera emailed the team a number of cases, including various screenshots, log files of an infected computer and system files as proof. The AdSense team validated the news saying, “We can confirm from the screenshots that these are fake Google ads, formatted to look like legitimate ads. We agree that this phenomenon is likely the result of malicious software installed on your computer.”

This is not for the first time Google adsense has been hit. In January 2005, Google took immediate action and removed some ads that caused malicious code to be installed on visitor’s computers. Google is smart enough and can let no loopholes at their end.

I only wonder, Raoul Bangera could be a net savvy or know the tricks of the web? Smart google will find smart ways to rule the web, indeed!

Yahoo Mindset, the Intent-driven Search and it allows you to Find the results you like or sort the way you need!

A Yahoo! Research demo that applies a new twist on search that uses machine learning technology to give you a choice: View Yahoo! Search results sorted according to whether they are more commercial or more informational (i.e., from academic, non-commercial, or research-oriented sources).

Yeah, now put the keywords in Yahoo Mindset 'Net newspaper for kids' and there I (Kidsfreesouls site of mine) stand with results # 1, #2 and # 5 of about 467812 for net newspaper for kids:-) This is fine. But the best part is that the demo provides a slider widget for users to explicitly specify their intent. Leaving the slider in the middle means they want to use the original Yahoo! search result order. Moving the slider to the extreme right means they want the top results to be those which the classifier is most confident are "non-commercial". Putting the slider in between those two positions means a blend -- somewhat faithful to the original ordering but also tending to bring the more obvious non-commercial pages to the top. Similarly, sliding into the left half indicates blending of commercialness confidence vs original ordering.

Google recently announced an exciting change to the Google Print product.The Google Print has been renamed as Google Book Search.

I feel this is user-friendly name and Book search is more a discovery of world books available on the web. More books would be promoted through this program and surfers can judge from the book cover and even get an opportunity to read the contents page, copyright details and a chapter of the book.

I already have the MJ Akbar Books account with google and a click from the website to Google Book search will land you up reading a chapter of the book 'Shade of Swords'. The Author account with google means parterning for the google revenue and of coz, the author's books need to be either transported by courier to google or the book pdfs of details to be uploaded on their server.

Way to go Google......More Publisher may tie up with google and more authors will reflect on searches with Google also planning to add Book Search on its main search.

Ego surfing by authors are sure to bring them great results!

Google launched a blog to help publishers understand the inner workings of AdSense. Yeah, the move comes as the Google vs Yahoo battle is on. The search giant is confronted by direct competition from Yahoo's Publisher Network and pressure from publishers to make AdSense less more transparent. In the battle between Google and Yahoo, the advantage will go to whichever company can produce the highest effective CPMs for publishers.

The "Inside Adsense" Blog and Google Adsense support offer optimization tips and feature descriptions to prospective and existing publishers in the AdSense network, with up to three posts a week by AdSense Engineers, Product managers, Product marketing managers, and Operations staff.

Yahoo's Publisher's Guide to RSS is all on how to Distribute content to Yahoo. This is likely to be an ongoing battle between the two search giants to improve both their offerings and their customer service and the benefits are the End users who gonna eat the cake or let it go. Blog and RSS Landscape has been really shaping up the market recently. As I got exploring the tech world, its new announcements every day! AOL is buying weblogs for approximately $25 million with the first deal paid of $2.5 million as revealed by verisign! The company's network includes approximately 80 advertising supported sites published by a group of more than 100 bloggers. Its blog properties include Autoblog, Blogging Baby and Engadget, which is Weblog's busiest site, according to traffic measurement provided by Technorati.

Now, recently I visited AOL and the most interesting was the 25 People We Envy Most which features Gwen, J K Rowling, Sergei Brin and Larry Page of Google,etc. Indeed, Fortune pays tribute to the people that makes us Jealous - Really? Nope, I think fortune pays tribute to the people who are Lucky becoz they are the Chosen One!

My affair with Google Search started way back as I explored the web searching for my website urls to appear with my own keywords 'net newspaper for kids', 'ilaxi', MJ Akbar and 'gujarati newspaper' and 'kidsfreesouls'. I almost fell in love with Google and I found it a 'wonder of wonders'. This has ever been my first Internet Crush and since years, my day began with google and ended up google as I updated my websites. To celebrate its Birthday, google is giving a newly expanded web search index that is 1,000 times the size of their original index. This means, ending the Search Engine Index war in terms of raw counting! Quality of search results is all that matters with Google. It's the surprise that Google has the whole Library project that shows Authors & their Books, Publishers, Book shops on the web. This Google Print Project bumped into trouble with Authors Guild who sue Google over a program that will make millions of books more discoverable to the world. Authors Guild alleged that Google's scanning and digitizing of library books constitutes a "massive" copyright infringement - Now, that's a real pity coz Google respects copyright and I do have a Print Account that I explore there and I find it 'Excellent'. It do need some changes but overall, Google has made it clear that copyright holder can ask to have their books excluded from the Library Project by following these instructions here.

Google introduces Blog Search and this is indeed great news for Bloggers:-) Blog is a great tool for freedom of expression and the recent Hand Book of Dan Gilmor, US Journalist and Jay Rosen, US Blogger is full of handy tips and technical advise on why Blog, Blogging Language, Choosing tool, setting up and running a blog, ethics, getting picked up by search engines, etc.
This Handbook may prove to be a boon to bloggers who are often the only real journalists in countries where mainstream media is under pressure or censored. Reporters without Borders provide tips to remain anonymous and to get round censorship, by choosing the most suitable method for each situation.

However, the latest buzz is Internet censor world championship - Most of the world’s authoritarian regimes are trying to control what their citizens read and do online. They’re getter better and better at blocking “objectionable” material, usually with technology bought from US firms. China is far and away the world champion. But it’s felt the heat of competition in recent years. Each country in this far from complete list has its own style and tactics but they all have one purpose, to keep ahead of the game.

So far, there's no way to censor Internet in this country and I wonder, who's framing the cyber laws?

Before three days or so, Google launched its most enhanced Blogging Search. This Blog Search indexes blogs by their site feeds, which will be checked frequently for new content. This means that Blog Search results for a given blog will update with new content much faster than standard web searches. Also, because of the structured data within site feeds, it is possible to find precise posts and date ranges with much greater accuracy. As such, Blogging has become the recent craze with individuals, corporates, newspapers, students and all who wish to write their own blogs - journals on any topic. Newspapers in print media are currently facing the threat of Online Journalism with the Blogging world. More and more blog posts reveal potential journalists leaving behind print media journalists who stand back with newer technology.

Marketing research firm Hitwise just released numbers for July discussing search engine rankings. The information from a press release on Tekrati says Google is still the top dog for search, more than double the number of searches of their closest competitor, Yahoo.

The report said that Google has 59.2% versus Yahoo's 28.8% and MSN's measly 5.5% of the market. The top 3 accounted for 93.5% of the total search market. One comment Hitwise made discussed Google's lack of a portal to drive traffic, saying 73% of Yahoo's traffic comes directly its main portal sites of Yahoo.com and My.Yahoo.Com and MSN received 61% of its traffic from its portal sites: www.MSN.Com, My.MSN.com and dellnet.msn.com

Google continues to demonstrate the value of effective Internet search on its own, irrespective of any connection to a general Internet portal. The next big challenge for Google will be the arrival of Microsoft's new operating system, "Vista," which is said to have far tighter search integration.

I happened to be a tech buff and a whizz as I wrote, designed, managed, maintained, hosted and marked my own websites. As I write Technical column for my print and online readers, I brush my web skills day by day. My articles like Create a Website, Promote Website, Ezines, Endangered Kids, Is Computers safe for kids, etc. has been widely accepted and read by readers. I got a wider experience on Tech as I promoted and marketed my own websites online. I got into web submission of articles, web forum posts and into associating and affiliating my sites.
